UPSC and other state PSC service is very hard to compete. But get a civil service job would be easy if you do preparation from early age. If you want be an IAS/IPS/IFS or other allied officer in first chance then you should start preparation from 1st year of your graduation.
Current affairs is main part of question in the PT exam. 40%-45% questions comes from current affairs in PT exam of any civil service exam. Here is list of good book and magazine for current affairs.
(1) Pratiyogita Darpan (Monthly, Half Yearly and Yearly)
(2) India Today
(3) News Paper - Time of India, Hindustan, Economics Times or Business Standard.
(4) Year Book
(5) Chronicle Magazine
